In 1993, Eric Ross murdered four innocent people, attempting to murder two more over a few days in Barrie, Ont. He was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years. The individuals he murdered were Annie Flam May 29, 1989; during this incident, Flam's sister was also assaulted ; sisters Linda and Donna Daughney October 13, 1989; Legere set fire to the Daughney home before leaving , and Father James Smith November 16, 1989. One week after the murder of Father Smith, on November 24, 1989, Legere was recaptured following a failed carjacking. There was a rock the size of a grapefruit by his head and a footprint on his face, the officer had testified.

Allan Joseph Legere born February 13, 1948 is a Canadian serial killer and arsonist, also known as the Monster of the Miramichi, in reference to a reign of terror he inflicted upon residents of the Miramichi River valley of New Brunswick in 1989. Matchett pleaded guilty to murdering John Glendenning and brutally beating his wife Mary; Curtis and Legere were convicted at trial. In the blinding snowstorm, Mercer lost her way. That, I suppose, is proof murder can never be what it is not. Legere was convicted but escaped custody in May 1989 while prison guards were escorting him to a medical appointment in Moncton, about 120 kilometres south of the Miramichi region. Curtis and Todd William Matchett both pleaded guilty in Glendenning's death and were sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 16 years. Still and all, it is the Miramichi, the great river, filled with a rough gentleness and, in spite of everything, a kind of innocence, whose people cannot be made less - by depression or violence. He was granted day parole in November of 2007 and ordered not to associate with people reasonably known to be involved in criminal activity. But he did not change the towns and he did not lessen the greatness of their people.

Allan Legere and his accomplices would beat the store owner to death and brutally attacking his wife. He became known as the Monster of the Miramichi. A psychological assessment deemed his risk of reoffending was in the low-moderate range. In a criminal career that involved murder from June 21, 1986, through November 24, 1989, his disadvantaged youth with a home environment that destabilized his psychosexual development played parts in fashioning an overpowering inferiority complex that left him mercurial in temperament and unpredictably violent, along with an insatiable desire to demonstrate brute strength, power and cunning. In 2015, he was transferred to Edmonton Institution, a regular maximum security facility in Alberta. With both Gomke and Mercer now at gunpoint, Legere told Mercer to drive to Moncton.
